Room Assignments

Your Room Assignment

Once your Housing Application has been processed, you will receive an email at your Marshall email address with your room assignment.

Due to a high volume of requests for certain residence halls, not all students will be placed in the hall of their first choice. Should this occur, your name will automatically be placed on a waiting list for that residence hall.

Roommate Information

  • Roommate information for First Time Freshman is sent in June in the room assignment email. If you would like to receive your future roommate’s email and their cell phone number, visit the “Check Assignment Status” button below.
  • Roommate information may not be available if a student requests their contact information to be kept private.

Living with a Roommate

Living with a roommate is a great opportunity to build a friendship that can last a lifetime. Like any friendship, a roommate relationship requires open communication.

As you prepare to have a roommate, please keep the following in mind:

  • Be honest about your expectations concerning your living space, study times, guests/visitors, sharing items, etc., and communicate them to your roommate.
  • Be open to learning new things about your roommate.
  • Be flexible and willing to compromise when differences or disagreements arise.
  • You and your roommate will work with your Resident Advisor (RA) to complete a roommate agreement that sets boundaries and a framework for your living space.

Roommate Mediation

Sometimes it is difficult for roommates to talk about their differences, but your RA is here to help facilitate the conversation. Housing staff can sit down with you and your roommate and discuss issues. With a little give and take, you can work together to make your environment more comfortable. If a compromise cannot be reached and a room change is the result of the conversation, these staff members can assist you with that process as well.

Residence Hall Association

YOUR HOME. YOUR VOICE. YOUR FUTURE.

The Marshall University Residence Hall Association (RHA) is a student-run organization advised by residence life staff dedicated to enhancing the residence hall experience.

RHA implements fun programs and engages in advocacy. It serves as the voice of the residential students to the Housing and Residence Life Office, Marshall University Student Government, faculty, administrators, dining services and other relevant parties.

RHA members are elected each spring and serve a one year term which begins at the conclusion of the spring semester. RHA General Assembly meetings are open to all residence hall students.

RHA benefits:

  • Leadership development
  • Plan programming
  • Connect with other residents
  • Advocate in the residence halls
  • Serve the community
