Biography
Josie Groves is a Literacy Specialist with the June Harless Center at Marshall University, where she is starting her third year of work in support of the West Virginia Department of Education’s statewide Ready, Read, Write WV initiative. In this capacity, she collaborates with district leadership across Greenbrier, Mercer, Monroe, Pocahontas, Raleigh, Summers, and Webster counties to design and deliver professional learning that advances high-quality, evidence-based literacy instruction aligned with the Science of Reading.
With 16 years of experience in West Virginia public education, Josie has taught English Language Arts at the secondary level and English Language Learners at the elementary and secondary level. Prior to becoming a literacy specialist, she most recently served as a district-level Federal Programs and Curriculum Coordinator.
Her academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts in English and Master of Arts degrees in Secondary Education and Instructional Design and Technology, both from West Virginia University. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in Learning Design and Technology at the University of South Carolina, where her research interests center on technology integration and instructional design in literacy education.
