Biography
Sam Sparks is a Literacy Specialist with the June Harless Center at Marshall University, partnering with the West Virginia Department of Education to support evidence-based literacy practices statewide. With over a decade of experience, she provides technical assistance, develops instructional resources, and leads professional learning across county, regional, and state levels.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and a Master of Arts in Education with a focus on Literacy from Morehead State University. She also earned a certification in Educational Leadership from Marshall University and completed the Essentials of Grant Writing Course Certificate through the West Virginia Grants Resource Center. Sam is advancing her career in education and nonprofit leadership through a Master of Public Administration while also expanding her expertise in strategic development and donor engagement by pursuing a Certificate in Fund Raising Management from the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy.
Sam is passionate about community engagement and serves in leadership roles with the Huntington Children’s Museum, Read Aloud West Virginia, and the Junior League of Huntington. She actively contributes to organizing events, leading fundraising initiatives, and supporting educational and outreach programs. Her commitment to building strong community partnerships and enriching the lives of children and families is reflected in her ongoing volunteerism and strategic leadership.
