The Marshall University Research Corporation has announced the winners of the Fall 2021 Undergraduate Creative Discovery and Research Awards and the Spring 2022 John Marshall Scholars Award program.
The eight awardees of the Fall 2021 Undergraduate Creative Discovery and Research Awards will receive a $750 stipend and $1,000 for travel and materials. In addition, $750 is provided for the participating faculty mentor. The program is open to students in the College of Science, College of Business, College of Liberal Arts, College of Arts and Media, College of Engineering and Computer Sciences, College of Health Professions and the Honors College.
Fall 2021 awardees are:
- Cartwright, Caroline (College of Science) – The Study of Trabecular Bone Density in Recent Modern Humans
- Caudill, Rachel (College of Science) – Comparing the Pollen Collected by Two Species of long-horned bees (Melissodes agilis and M.trinodis, family Apidae)
- Kukharskaya, Irina (College of Science) – Effect of Epigenetic Drift on Aging
- Stamper, Payton (College of Science) – Identifying Different Plants Used by Alfalfa Leah-cutter Bees for Nest Construction
- Okubo, Marie (College of Health Professions) – Determing the Relationship between Fatigue and Dysfunctional Shoulder Movement Patterns in High School Volleyball Athletes
- Parker, Abigail (College of Health Professions) – Differentiating Three Species of Wild Bees (Hylaeus spp., Colletidae) Using the COI Barcode
- Thomas, Peyton (College of Health Professions) – Sex and Age Effects on Skeletal Muscle Energy System in Response to Exercise
- Wellman, Sydney (College of Health Professions) – Knee Injuries in High School Volleyball Players: Assessing Fatigue, Muscle Activation and Join Motion
The two awardees of the John Marshall Scholars Award program will receive a semester-long, four-course reassigned time commitment. Since its inception, the John Marshall Scholar program has supported the creative discovery and research work of faculty members from the Honors College, College of Science, College of Business, College of Liberal Arts, College of Arts and Media, College of Engineering and Computer Sciences and the Library.
Spring 2022 Awardees Are:
- Chowdhury, Tanvir Irfan (College of Engineering and Computer Sciences) – Virtual Anti-Bully Simulation (VAS)
- Mays, Herman (Honors College) – Species limits in East Asian Birds and Evolution Across an Island Archipelago
