Marshall University’s cyber competition team placed 14th of 450 colleges and universities in the National Cyber League’s Spring 2023 season. Students performed in individual and team events that showcase the real-world cybersecurity skills they would use in the workplace.
Students Andrew Clark, Ethen Endres, Alisha Joseph, John McFee, Samuel Adkins, Emma Meadows and Robert Miller II, who were coached by Marshall Associate Professor Josh Brunty, were recognized for outstanding performance.
“Marshall’s Cyber Competition Team has exemplified unparalleled cyber skills yet again. I’m incredibly proud of this season’s team members for their unwavering drive and grit, as they demonstrated the persistence to withstand intense pressure and exceed expectations against the best of the best in this year’s the National Cyber League (NCL) competition,” Brunty said. “This latest achievement and placement not only solidify Marshall’s position as a powerhouse in the field of cybersecurity, but reflects that our students are among the best and brightest students in the United States.”
Marshall’s team has performed well in the competition for several years, ranking in the top 10 four times and winning in the spring of 2020.
The National Cyber League, which is powered by Cyber Skyline, is a competition league that tests students in the individual and collaborative daily tasks they’d need as cybersecurity professionals. Marshall’s students were among 7,820 students who participated, earning a skills report that recognizes their abilities and can be shown to an employer to demonstrate their job readiness.
“The NCL finish this year showcases our students’ grit and determination when faced with cyber challenges,” said Bill Gardner, interim chair and undergraduate program director for Marshall’s Department of Cyber Forensics and Security. “They continue to excel at doing hard work that matters. I couldn’t be prouder.”
