Marshall to kick off Homecoming Week activities with Unity Walk

Share

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall University will kick off Homecoming Week with its annual Unity Walk at 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, in Huntington. The event is a signature Homecoming event aimed at creating a bold display of unity, inclusion and oneness.

The walk begins at the Rec Center, where student organizations will display banners reflecting their creativity, unity and interpretation of the Homecoming theme, “Wheel of Thunder,” honoring Grand Marshal Jim Thornton, a Marshall graduate and longtime voice of “Wheel of Fortune.”  From there, half of the group will turn toward Third Avenue on 20th Street and the other half toward Fifth Avenue, converging at the Old Main entrance before proceeding together to the Memorial Student Center Plaza — a symbol of the strength and spirit of the Marshall community.

At the conclusion of the walk, Gerald J. Harrison, vice president and director of Athletics, will deliver the keynote address, followed by the announcement of Homecoming royalty and banner contest winners.

The celebration concludes with food and music on the Memorial Student Center Plaza. The event is free, and students, alumni, family and community members are welcome.

Media are invited and encouraged to attend.
