This year, Marshall University and the Indiana University of Pennsylvania virtually hosted the Tri-State NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) Student Audition Nov. 14.. Although there were many difficulties due to the pandemic situation, voice major students from Dr. Alexander Lee and Dr. Carline Waugh’s studio prepared for this competition safely by having virtual voice lessons.

The Marshall University Psychology Clinic will host a weekly virtual support group focused on the impact of COVID-19. It will be from 5-6 p.m. Thursdays, beginning on Nov. 19 and continuing for eight weeks.

From 7  to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, the West Virginia Autism Training Center at Marshall University will host an online gala event that is designed to inform and entertain participants about the good work of the center, while also raising funds to support their mission.

Marshall Health, in collaboration with the Cabell-Huntington Health Department and the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (WV DHHR), will offer free and confidential HIV testing Tuesday, Dec. 1, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the health department at 703 7th Ave. in Huntington.

The American Electric Power (AEP) Foundation has awarded $50,000 to the Huntington Scottish Rite Foundation in support of Marshall University’s Department of Communication Disorders and its Speech and Hearing Center.

The Marshall University Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation (iCenter), part of the Lewis College of Business, has announced Brandon Dennison and Collin Meadows as its inaugural cohort of entrepreneurs in residence (EIRs).

A self-taught historian and archivist who has chronicled decades of the history of Wayne County, West Virginia, has been honored by the Drinko Academy at Marshall University with the John Deaver Drinko Academy 2020 Community Service Award.

The new book “Sport and the Pandemic” contains a chapter from Marshall University’s director of sport tourism and hospitality management program, Dr. Jennifer Mak.

The Marshall University Society of Physics Students and the American Institute of Physics will present the “Faces of Physics Virtual Speaker Series,” beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, with Dr. Natalia Lewandowska of Haverford College. She will speak on “The Case of the Perfect Clocks in the Sky,” and her presentation is free and open to all. It will be followed by a question and answer session.

The COVID-19 pandemic has created new challenges for everyone in the Marshall family. Instruction and learning have changed. Jobs and responsibilities have been altered. Even with all the new efforts that are required, members of the Marshall faculty and staff have gone beyond the call of duty to help students who are struggling during these trying times.
