Marshall University was chosen for project in the Pathfinder program, the first West Virginia project awarded by U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) and the Civil-Military Innovation Institute (CMI2). Marshall will lead a research project that focuses on engineering and cybersecurity for technology used by the military.

The National Science Foundation has awarded $366,624 for a research project at Marshall University that could have findings affecting everything from how to protect humans during space travel to how to store drugs and vaccines at room temperature.

Marshall University is partnering with several statewide organizations to empower higher education student leaders at 10 southern West Virginia institutions with skills to assist their institutions and communities in preventing substance use and misuse. The project’s second annual Spring Prevention Conference and Celebration will be held from 8:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Thursday, May 12, and from 9 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Friday, May 13, at the Resort at Glade Springs in Daniels, West Virginia.

Marshall’s iCenter in the Lewis College of Business has welcomed a new entrepreneur in residence. Ariana Shives is a UX and UI (user experience and user interface) designer. As entrepreneur in residence, Shives mentors students from the Brad D. Smith Student Incubator and supports the iCenter with innovation across the university.

The Marshall University Technology Transfer Office (TTO) will present two free seminars on Wednesday, May 18.

A study by a team of researchers at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine provides the first published in-depth description of the anti-cancer activity of capsaicin sustained release formulations. Capsaicin is naturally found in chili peppers and is the agent that provides the hot and spicy taste when eating chili peppers. Sustained release formulation of capsaicin are being explored for extended anti-cancer activity.

The West Virginia Behavioral Health Workforce and Health Equity Training Center at Marshall University is set to offer another series of continuing education sessions.

The Prevention Empowerment Partnership (PEP), an initiative of the Marshall University Research Corporation, will host the National Drug Take-Back Day in partnership with the Cabell County Sheriff’s Department and Marshall University School of Pharmacy. The National Drug Take-Back Day will take place Saturday, April 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Walgreens on 4th Avenue and in Drug Emporium at the Barboursville Mall.

Three students were honored with the #WVSolutions Seekers – Rising Leader in West Virginia Award, during the #WVSolutions Seekers Student Leadership Conference earlier this month.

The West Virginia Collegiate Recovery Network (WVCRN) is celebrating National Collegiate Recovery Week April 11-15 with a series of free events across southern West Virginia.
