The Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine and Marshall Health recently welcomed two new specialists to its department of ophthalmology.

A pair of Marshall University graduate students took first- and second-place in the 2016 Dan O’Hanlon Essay Contest, results of which were announced Monday in a brief ceremony in the Simon Perry Center for Constitutional Democracy in Old Main on the Huntington campus.

The Marshall University School of Music will open the second annual MUsic Mondays Lecture Series at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, at the Cellar Door, 905 3rd Ave., Huntington.

The College of Education and Professional Development at Marshall University will host SUPER Day from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, in the Marshall Recreation Center on the Huntington campus. The theme for the event, which is part of the Investiture activities for Marshall President Jerome A. Gilbert, is Students Using their Powers to Engage in Reading.

Marshall University’s School of Music will present Michael Noble, an American pianist currently living in Brussels, Belgium, in a recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15.

Representatives for Marshall University, Tri-State Transit Authority and the City of Huntington were on hand Friday, Sept. 9, during the university’s presentation of the newly branded bus, “The Green Machine.”

Marshall University will host the first forum in a series of statewide Mental Health Matters panel presentations to advocate for juvenile justice and a system of community-based mental health care for youth. The forum will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, in the Memorial Student Center’s room BE5 on the Huntington campus.

Marshall University’s School of Music will present faculty members Dr. Michael Stroeher and Dr. Johan Botes performing the sonatas of Alec Wilder on Sunday, Sept. 11.

Marshall University’s School of Theatre has announced the lineup for the 2016/2017 season, which is scheduled to kick off Wednesday, Sept. 28. The season will feature four plays as well as a special event presented by Huntington Dance Theatre.

Five graduates of Marshall University’s W. Page Pitt School of Journalism and Mass Communications (SOJMC) are being inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame later this month.
