Scholarship Opportunities

Achievement Tuition Waiver Grant for incoming West Virginia Students with Financial Need

The Achievement Tuition Waiver Grant is available to assist incoming first-time freshmen who have exceptional financial need based on the results of the FAFSA.

Eligibility for the Achievement Tuition Waiver Grant and the amount of the award is determined based on the student’s demonstrated unmet financial need and the student’s high school academic performance. Students qualifying for this program may receive the grant up to four academic years (fall and spring semesters) while pursuing their first baccalaureate degree. In addition to demonstrating exceptional financial need, incoming first-time freshmen must meet the following criteria to receive this award:

File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by April 15 prior to the academic year enrolling
Earn a High School Grade Point Average of 3.0 or higher.
Live in on-campus housing.
Enroll full-time.
Submit all required documentation for federal verification, if required.

The value of the Achievement Tuition Waiver Grant typically stays the same each academic year it is renewed as long as the student meets the following criteria.

File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) annually.
Submit all required documentation for federal verification, if required.
Earn at least a 2.0 Marshall and overall grade point average.
Earn 30 credit hours each academic year.
Live in on-campus housing.
Maintain full-time enrollment.

The tuition waiver grant may only be applied to Marshall University tuition charges. This tuition waiver grant does not apply to students who do not live on campus and who are enrolled in a distance education program. This waiver does not cover tuition charges from St. Mary’s Center for Education and other third-party agreements with colleges and universities. Be advised that the amount of this award is subject to change in accordance with federal and state regulations and institutional policy when the student’s unmet financial need changes due to verification, the student receives additional financial aid awards, or there are other circumstances that affect the student’s financial aid eligibility.

Transfer Student Scholarship for In-State Students

Transfer students who are charged the West Virginia “in-state” tuition rate qualify for the following awards. To receive this award, the student must be enrolled full-time as an undergraduate student.

Transfer Student Scholarship – Tier 1	GPA >= 3.75 and transfer in at least 30 credit hours	$1,500
Transfer Student Scholarship – Tier 2	GPA >=3.5 < 3.75 and transfer in at least 30 credit hours	$1,000

This scholarship is renewable for two additional semesters beyond the first year of eligibility as long as the student maintains an overall grade point average of 3.0 and successfully completes 30 credit hours at Marshall University after one academic year.

Society of Yeager Scholars

Society of Yeager Scholars receive scholarships totaling the cost of tuition, standard fees, housing and food (student must obtain permission to live off campus), a stipend, a book allowance, a personal computer, a summer study program at Exeter College, Oxford, and funds for further study abroad experience (after applying any qualifying federal and state grants and scholarships). Endowment & Annual Scholarships

There are hundreds of grant and scholarship funds that have been endowed by an individual or are made available in memory of a family member. Companies and individuals also make several dozen private scholarships available to students on an annual basis.

Eligibility for these scholarships varies according to the donor’s wishes and not all scholarships are renewable. For most of these scholarships, all financial aid applicants are automatically considered. Print the Marshall University Private Scholarship Applications for which you want to be considered. Then complete and submit as instructed on each application.

Employee Dependent Undergraduate Tuition Assistance Program

This program may provide a tuition waiver covering the total cost of the Capital Fee and the Education and General (E & G) to eligible dependents of Marshall University employees.
