Move-in day at Marshall is very exciting, but there’s also a lot to get done before you set foot on campus. To make things easier (and less stressful), we’ve put together 10 tips to help your move-in go as smoothly as possible.
- Review Marshall’s student conduct and disciplinary policies ahead of time. We know, it’s not exactly thrilling reading, but it’s way better to know the rules before you get there than learn them the hard way.
- Read the Residence Hall Guide. Think of this as your ultimate move-in cheat sheet. It covers everything from your housing assignment and check-in process to hall policies, services and amenities.
- Submit your required health info to the Office of Admissions. This includes your meningitis shot and any other required immunizations.
- Double-check your insurance coverage. Before you pack up all your stuff, check your family’s homeowner’s or other insurance policies to make sure your valuables are covered on campus. You may also want to consider adding a renter’s insurance policy.
- Confirm your housing info and check-in time: Once you know your room assignment, log in to myMU and check your Marshall email. This is where you’ll see your housing status and find out your designated move-in day and check-in time.
- Reach out to your roommate(s): Once you know who you’ll be living with, give them a call or text before you move in! Chat about class schedules, hobbies and who is bringing what.
- Get familiar with campus tech: Check out the IT Student Guide so you know how to use myMU, connect to the campus WiFi and access other important resources.
- Know what to bring (and leave at home): Take a look at Marshall’s What to Bring page for a handy checklist of what’s allowed in your room.
- Don’t overpack: We know that it’s easier said than done, but most students bring way too much stuff (trust us, we’ve been there!). A good trick: lay out everything you think you want to bring, then pack half of it. You’ll thank yourself when it’s time to move in!
- Share your contact info: Make sure your family and friends have your mailing address and phone number. Check out Marshall’s guide to Residence Hall mailing addresses so you can receive those care packages and letters without any issues!
