Jump Start a Career in Aviation

A new partnership between Marshall University, Berkeley County Schools, and the Education Alliance offers an exciting opportunity for high school students. The Aviation Explorers (Aviation X) program is a two-year program that gives students hands-on training and real-world experience for a career in aviation.

About the Aviation X Program

  • A free two-year program open to current 10th graders (Class of 2028) at Hedgesville High School, Martinsburg High School, Musselman High School and Spring Mills High School (limited spots available at each school).
  • Successful applicants will explore an aviation path with onramps for Pilots, Aerospace Engineering, Aviation Operations, and the opportunity to specialize their senior year.
  • Starting in Fall 2026, students will take two CTE courses onsite at Marshall University’s Eastern WV Regional Airport classroom during their junior & senior years.
  • Students will complete an internship during the second semester of their senior year and have the opportunity to take a certification exam at the end of the program, as applicable.
  • Bus transportation to/from the airport classroom will be provided.
