Degree Requirements

Classes Credit Hours
General Education Requirements 34
College Core Requirements 42
Major Requirements * 36
Electives ** 8
TOTAL 120

* – The 36 credit hours for the Major Requirements are a key feature of the BA in English-Online degree. To meet these requirements, students should take ANY 9 ENG courses (but no more than 2 at the 200-level), plus ENG 350, 355, and 499. Some examples of these courses include ENG 360: Intro to Creative Writing, ENG 424: American Literature after 1914, ENG 431: Writing for Non-Profits, ENG 314: Intro to Professional Writing, and ENG 232: Good Films. (Students must have taken 350, 355, & four [4] 400-level ENG classes before they can take ENG 499: Senior Capstone.)

** – Students would have more elective hours—and therefore the flexibility to add a minor—if they select courses that fulfill more than 1 requirement. For example, ENG 200: Texting the World fulfills a General Education Requirement AND counts towards the English Major Requirements. Students should work with their advisors in selecting courses.

Please see rotation below for Major Requirements. (For General Education requirements, see MU Undergraduate Catalog or http://www.marshall.edu/gened. For College Core Requirements, see MU Undergraduate Catalog or http://www.marshall.edu/cola/degree-requirements/.)
