Marshall University’s Lifelong Learning Program to host annual Holiday Open House

Share
Marshall University’s Lifelong Learning Program (LLP) will host its annual Holiday Open House from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, in the lobby of the Brad D. Smith Center for Business and Innovation.

The yearly event offers LLP members a chance to celebrate the season together while welcoming community members interested in learning more about the program. The open house is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served, and guests will enjoy live holiday music throughout the event.

Elizabeth Appell Sheets, coordinator for the LLP, said the program offers a unique opportunity for community members to continue learning and stay connected.

“Marshall’s Lifelong Learning Program gives individuals an opportunity to hear speakers and topics of interest, as well as visit local points of interest they otherwise might not experience,” Sheets said. “This is a group of people interested in and committed to learning new things — a way to expand one’s mind and knowledge about subjects or interests.”

LLP participants say the Holiday Open House is a welcoming way to experience the program and meet fellow lifelong learners.

“The Holiday Open House is a casual and easy way to meet other participants, learn more about the LLP, and get information about upcoming speaker events,” said Sarah Walling, an LLP member. “You will leave with new friends and a renewed interest in learning!”

Kristen King, another participant, said the event is one she looks forward to every year. “The holiday open house is a fun, festive experience and a time to chat with a great group of very interesting people,” she said.

LLP member Jim Sutherland said the program offers valuable educational and social opportunities year-round. “I enjoy both the learning and the social aspects of the LLP,” he said. “For a modest annual cost, we’re invited to attend a variety of in-person and Zoom sessions with first-class speakers. I also appreciate the flexibility — I can be as active as my schedule permits.”
