On Friday, March 6, Marshall University’s beloved mascot Marco will celebrate his 61st birthday by visiting local elementary schools and sharing the Marshall spirit.

Director of Events and Brand Management Mallory Jarrell said Marco is excited to spend his birthday celebrating with young members of the Herd.

“We want to connect with the community and encourage children to know higher education is an option — and that it is within reach,” Jarrell said.

Director of Communications and Family Connections at Cabell County Schools Ashley Stephens said the partnership with Marshall University enhances student learning experiences.

“From athletes who stop by to read to professors who host hands-on learning opportunities to student teachers who share their skills in our classrooms to joint programs that allow our students to get a head start in their collegiate learning, Marshall is a fantastic partner for our schools,” Stephens said. “We can’t wait to celebrate with Marco on his big day!”

Children’s book author and Marshall alumna Michelle D. Callanta will read her book “Let’s Cheer with Marco,” a story guiding even the smallest of Herd fans through the sights, sounds and special moments of game day in Huntington.

Marco will make two elementary school visits on Friday:
• Milton Elementary 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
• Spring Hill Elementary 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Media are invited and encouraged to cover the events.
