Share

The Marshall University Women’s Center will celebrate its 50th anniversary and present the Women of Marshall Awards from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, April 30, at the Brad D. Smith Center for Business and Innovation.

The event commemorates five decades of the Women’s Center’s impact while honoring individuals and programs that have advanced equity and leadership across the Marshall community and beyond.

“In 1976, amid the momentum of the Second Wave Feminist Movement, Marshall faculty co‑founded the Women’s Center,” said Women’s Center Coordinator Alissa Rookard. “Over the years, the center and its staff have been the driving force behind numerous campus initiatives — from wellness programming to interpersonal violence prevention. Guided by a belief in collective action, we have remained committed to creating meaningful change. I am proud to carry forward the legacy of all those who came before me.”

The evening begins with a welcome reception followed by an awards ceremony recognizing honorees in categories including the Impact Award, Catalyst for Change, Unity in Action, Lifetime Achievement, the Susan Jackson Award, Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies, and the Bold Women’s Leadership Network 2028 Cohort Recognition.

The celebration will conclude with a reception featuring student research and opportunities for networking and community engagement.
