Marshall University’s and The Pottery Place’s monthlong virtual Empty Bowls sale raised $9,705 for the Facing Hunger Foodbank.

Marshall journalism professor Dan Hollis and WMUL-FM, Marshall’s public radio station, have been honored with a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for the third time in the past four years by the Radio Television Digital News Association.

Marshall University’s Jazz Studies program in the School of Music will offer a Virtual Jazz Camp June 8-12, in place of its usual Jazz-MU-Tazz jazz camp this summer.

Students from the Marshall University School of Art and Design will host a virtual reception for their exhibit Minimum Capacity, which will be on display May 8-28 in a nonprofit project space in Atlanta as they await an opportunity to present an expanded version of their work locally later this year, with hopes that the COVID-19 pandemic will be past. The virtual reception will be at 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 8, and anyone interested in attending can e-mail art@marshall.edu.

Marshall University’s W. Page Pitt School of Journalism and Mass Communications (SOJMC) Hall of Fame is welcoming five new members. Bill Bissett, Tony Crutchfield, Chris Fabry, Dan Hollis and Susan Nicholas have been selected.

Zac Doss, a fourth-year student majoring in voice and English, has received the Chip Hand Prize for Vocal Excellence at the “NextGen: The Voices of Tomorrow” competition sponsored by the American Pops Orchestra. Students from Marshall University’s public radio station, WMUL-FM, have received a number of awards recently, including earning 19 awards at the 2019 Vega Digital Awards, as well as being honored with seven awards during the 80th Annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Conference’s 11th Annual Awards Ceremony in March.

Chris Schletter will step into the role of director of athletic bands and assistant professor of music at Marshall University beginning this fall.

The Marshall University School of Art and Design is partnering with The Pottery Place to sell bowls online as an alternative to the Empty Bowls fundraising event, which was canceled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
