The Marshall University School of Music will present MU Jazz Ensemble I in concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, in Smith Recital Hall.

The Marshall University Chorus will perform a concert in collaboration with 3rd Avenue, the Recovery Point Choir and Cypress. The theme of the concert is “Bloom,” and it will take place at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, in Smith Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public, with sponsorship from the School of Music in the College of Arts and Media.

The Marshall University School of Music will present a Marshall Symphonic Band concert, “The Places You’ll Go,” conducted by Jesse Stevens, assistant director of bands. The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, in Smith Recital Hall and will feature works by Robert Sheldon, Samuel R. Hazo, Rossano Galante and Frank Ticheli.

Marshall University School of Music faculty members Dr. Carline Waugh and Dr. Johan Botes will present “Many Moods in Song: A Celebration of Life through Music,” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at Smith Recital Hall.

Marshall University will host a concert by the U.S. Air Force Heritage Brass at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, in Smith Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public, with sponsorship from the Marshall University School of Music.

The Marshall University School of Music will host the Central City New Music Series and present a solo performance by acclaimed double bassist Pascal Niggenkemper at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at Marshall’s Jomie Jazz Center.

Lorie Wyant, an alumna of Marshall University’s W. Page Pitt School of Journalism and Mass Communications (SOJMC), has established the Lorie Wyant Scholarship for promising broadcast journalists through a specific bequest.

The MUsic Alive Guest Artist and Faculty Collaboration Concert Series and Woodlands Chamber Series, directed by Dr. Şölen Dikener, Dale Capehart and Molly Watson, will present two performances Oct. 9-10.

The Marshall University School of Music will present its Jazz Ensemble I in concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Smith Recital Hall. The concert, “Celebrating 80 Years of Blue Note Records,” will feature music from the record label’s most influential artists, including Horace Silver, Wayne Shorter, Art Blakey, Hank Mobley, Kenny Dorham and John Coltrane.

Marshall University’s Marching Thunder will host the Annual Tri-State Marching Championships Saturday, Oct. 5. The marching band competition will feature 16 bands from throughout the Tri-State, who will perform at the Joan C. Edwards Stadium.
