Marshall University will mark its 182nd commencement with two separate ceremonies Saturday, May 11, at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena and Convention Center.

The Empty Bowls fundraiser that Marshall University hosted this month in conjunction with several Huntington organizations raised a record-breaking $17,995 for the Facing Hunger Foodbank. The amount included $15,520 made from selling bowls created by Marshall ceramics students and other volunteers, along with $2,475 raised in the event’s silent auction.

The Marshall University Choral Union and the Marshall University Symphony Orchestra will join together to present a program honoring victims of the Holocaust at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 28, at B’nai Sholom Synagogue, 949 10th Ave., Huntington.

Students from Marshall University’s public radio station, WMUL-FM, received two first-place awards and three second-place awards in the metropolitan classification during the sixth annual “The Virginias” Associated Press Broadcasters awards ceremony April 6 at the Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs.

Marshall University’s W. Page Pitt School of Journalism and Mass Communications has been selected by the Dow Jones News Fund as one of 10 programs nationally to participate in a summer high school workshop with a health and wellness theme.

Marshall University will host “Dark Matter,” a series of workshops for students and public presentations with artist Carol Prusa, the Edwards Distinguished Professor in the Arts whose work is inspired by the universe.

Students enrolled in Marshall University’s ART 481, Special Topics: Museum Curatorial Practice, course have collaborated with the Juliet Art Museum at the Clay Center for the Arts and Sciences, to create the exhibition, recollection. This exhibition will open during Art After Dark, planned for 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, April 18, following the Downtown Charleston Art Walk.  The opening reception will include free admission to the Juliet Art Museum and the opportunity to meet and discuss the exhibition with students, faculty and Clay Center staff. 

Marshall University’s College of Arts and Media joins local nonprofits and volunteers to host its 16th Annual Empty Bowls fundraising event from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 12, at First Presbyterian Church, 1015 5th Ave.
