The Marshall University College of Science is now enrolling students in a new undergraduate major in specialty agriculture, which prepares them for the field of sustainable, high-yield agriculture suitable for mountainous regions and small land areas. 

An accelerated program that allows students to earn a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in seven years, compared to the traditional nine years, is now available at Marshall University.

Two incoming Marshall University freshmen have been named among West Virginia’s first class of Underwood-Smith Teaching Scholars.

Students Darby McCloud, Michael Smith, Brendin Flinn and Ashley Dague from Marshall University’s College of Science have received $5,000 research grants from the NASA West Virginia Space Grant Consortium and will be working alongside Marshall faculty as part of Marshall University’s Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program.

Marshall University’s cyber forensics and security program is a finalist for the Forensic 4:Cast Digital Forensics and Incident Response (DFIR) Program or Training Course of the Year.

Marshall University’s Collegiate Cyber Defense Team recently won the national championship in the spring season of the National Cyber League (NCL). The team placed first out of 925 teams competing.

Dr. Habiba Chirchir, an assistant professor of biology in Marshall’s College of Science, has been selected by the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB) to serve on the Science Policy Committee for a two-year term, beginning July 1, and has recently received a competitive research grant from the Leakey Foundation.

A company co-founded by Marshall University Chemistry Professor Dr. Michael Norton will be featured in a new television series that will begin airing May 19 on ABC.

The Marshall University Forensic Science Center (MUFSC) has entered into a collaborative partnership with the ANDE Corporation, which is placing a Rapid DNA instrument at the MUFSC for DNA analysts to evaluate for future validation and testing.
