WMUL-FM hosted the 16th annual Hair from the Herd event, which collaborated with the Huntington School of Beauty Culture to provide haircuts for donations for Wigs for Kids.
WMUL-FM Promotions Director, Waylon Smith, said the best part of it is the “real world impact” that this event provides.
“For me, this is one of my favorite events we put on at the station because it does actually have a real-world impact, we give back, and you are able to see that through all of the donations,” Smith said.
Smith also said this event is a great way for people to build their confidence while giving back.
“Someone else is getting their confidence back while you’re also getting yours back, you’re getting a nice haircut, and someone who needs it is getting your hair,” Smith said.
Students, staff, and faculty members participated in the event and had their own reasons for wanting to give back to the community.
Student Jackson Surrweels said, “It’s very important because my grandmother went through a kind of cancer, so anything I can give back is helpful.”
Student Tracy Puckkett said, “You can donate to a lot of causes because it’s important to show that we support them.”
The annual Hair from the Herd event allows for students of Marshall University to give back to the community one clip at a time.
