HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WMUL-FM) – Wednesday, April 23, was found to be worthy to be declared Spring 2025’s annual “Bubble Day”.
A not-so-hidden gem on Marshall’s campus, Journalism professor Dan Hollis, declared his 10 annual “Bubble Day”, which is a chance for students to enjoy the beautiful weather and blow their worries away.
Hollis said, “Well, see, there’s no rhyme or reason to when Bubble Day happens. It’s just like we pick a perfect day and say that’s today’s going to be Bubble Day.”
Unlike previous years, this year, Hollis chose the date in advance, which is unusual.
“Usually, I just wake up in the morning and say, ‘Hey, today’s going to be a perfect day, it’s Bubble Day!’. But this year, the 10th anniversary, make it a little bigger.” Hollis said.
Over one hundred students and faculty stopped by within the an hour that the event was hosted in front of Old Main. This event has grown beyond the School of Journalism and Mass Communications and ushered in participants from the greater Marshall community.
Hollis said, “It started with just a few of us in the School of Journalism, and now it’s blossomed into this, whatever it is, the entire university. Yeah, I saw a couple of pre-physical therapy people out here and everything.”
Marshall students voiced feelings of relief, noting that the event is a breath of fresh air amid the studying.
As most students celebrated the semester coming to an end and summer quickly approaching, others had more to celebrate including student Tally Mamula, who chose Bubble Day to celebrate her 20 birthday.
Mamula said, “Dan told me to come out, and I didn’t go to it last year, I missed it, and today’s my birthday, so I decided I should come out and support Dan’s Bubble Day since he does it every year.”
Marshall Students and faculty alike claimed that they are already looking forward to next spring’s fun.
