HUNTINGTON, W. Va. (WMUL-FM) — Basketball season is finally back in Huntington as the Cam Henderson Center saw hardwood action for the first time in the 2025-26 season.
Marshall played host to the Alice Lloyd Eagles in its first contest of the season, defeating the Eagles 123-63, giving Marshall fans a glimpse at possible lineups and rotations for the season.
The transfer portal class as well as the true freshman class were stellar, not to forget about returning players who had great games.
Herd fans should look to hear names like Jalen Speer, Matt Van Komen, Noah Otshudi and many more. Coach Cornelius “Corny” Johnson’s roster is complete as it presented multiple different looks on both offense and defense.
Coach Corny discussed true freshmen Bryce Slay and Landen Joseph and their performance, “They played well, they played confident. You know both of those young guys are super talented offensively, you know again it’s gonna be a long season, and they have to keep growing and understand how hard you have to play at this level”.
Herd fans should look forward to seeing this revamped squad as it aims to compete for a Sun Belt Conference Title. However, the path there will be rough as the Herd starts the year on the road at UMass and Toledo before finding itself facing the Virginia Cavaliers in Charlottesville, Va.
Official regular season action won’t take place just yet as Marshall still has to play Davis & Elkins on Oct. 28 at 7 PM at the Cam Henderson Center.
