HUNTINGTON, W. Va. (WMUL-FM) — Marshall Women’s Soccer (7-4-3) looks to solidify its chances of making the Sun Belt Conference Tournament as it plays host to the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers (3-4-7) on Friday evening at 7 p.m.
The Thundering Herd currently sits tied for sixth place in the SBC with James Madison and Louisiana with 12 points in conference play. Meanwhile, the Chanticleers sit just outside of SBC Tournament qualification in ninth place with seven points. The top eight teams in the SBC ladder will qualify for post-season play.
Marshall has not lost a contest in its last three outings as it comes off a 2-0 victory over Appalachian State, as well as back-to-back scoreless draws against Old Dominion and South Alabama.
Leading the stampede for the Herd is senior Bailey Fisher with six goals, while graduate student Marcella Alves is right behind her with five. Sophomore Fernanda Dantas has been astounding in finding her teammates this season as she has nine assists, which is triple the next best on the squad of Marcella Alves and Brooklyn McComas with three.
The main goalkeeper for the Thundering Herd has been sophomore Emma Durand, who is third in the entire Sun Belt Conference with an average of just 1.12 goals allowed per game.
The Chanticleers seem to have something against wins and losses, as Coastal has tied its last six games. The Chants last game without a draw came 35 days ago on Sept. 18 with a 4-1 loss against James Madison University. In fact, Coastal has yet to win a match in conference play through eight outings.
The Chants are led by redshirt-junior Tamlyn Parkes and sophomore Dolcie O’Connor with three goals apiece. While sophomores Eleanor Ashton and Eefje Botjer are atop the assist category with three apiece.
Sophomore Aris Lamanna has played every minute in the net for Coastal this season, she cracks the top five in the Sun Belt Conference with an average of 1.143 goals allowed per game.
