HUNTINGTON, W. Va. (WMUL-FM) — After two games against Power 4 opponents, the Marshall Thundering Herd Women’s Basketball
Team (2-2) hosted the Salem International Tigers (0-2). Marshall was looking to get back into the in column after two losses to Indiana and No. 23 Kentucky, while Salem was trying to break a 20-game losing streak going back to last year.
It would be close early in the game, but Marshall pulled away away to a 22-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The second would be the same as Marshall would score 26 points to Salem’s 6 and make the score 55-15.
The second half was the exact same story. Marshall scored 24 and 26 points in each quarter as Salem would only score 16 points the rest of the game.
Both sides of the ball for Marshall were stellar. Offensively, Marshall shot 54% from the field, its best of the year. Marshall had tits best game from beyond the arc as well, shooting 33% and making 9, both highs for this season.
On defense, it was pure dominance for the Herd. Marshall forced 39 turnovers, which broke the previous record for most turnovers by a team in a single game, which was 36 entering the matchup.
The 74-point victory is Marshall’s largest win since the 2016-2017 season.
