HUNTINGTON, W. Va. (WMUL-FM) — The Marshall Baseball Team returned to Jack Cook Field and picked up a series sweep over the St. Bonaventure Bonnies.

Marshall came in at 5-6 after picking up a win against ACC foe Virginia Tech, and the Bonnies came in at 4-7 after a midweek loss to Kent State.

Marshall’s Ace, Bryce Blevins, would take the bump on Friday and would have another respectable outing to earn his third victory of the year. He went seven and two-thirds innings with nine punch outs, giving up nine hits and three earned runs.

The game was tied at one in the 4th until Tyler Kamerer would get a fly ball past the Bonnies outfield and break the game open at 4-1.

The Bonnies fought back and got the game within one at 5-4 in the eighth inning, but Charlie Krebs would come on and close the game with a four-out save to give Marshall the win in the series opener.

Game two would be a stampede by The Herd offense, literally. An Evan Bottone HBP and a Kamerer double put a pair in scoring position to start the frame. Jackson Halter would reach on a throwing error, allowing Kamerer to score from second to make it 2-0.

After AJ Havrilla’s double, Ethan Murdoch would win a 12-pitch at bat that resulted in an RBI single to score Halter. A later sacrifice fly from Olvier Service would score Havrilla to make it 4-0.

After a walk to Cleary Simpson, a double by Jack Smith extended the advantage to 6-0.

Marshall would carry it into the second and make the lead 8-0. A bit later in the 5th, an Oliver Service Triple and a Cleary Simpson Home Run would bring the game to 10-0.

St Bonaventure would break up the shutout in the seventh, but in the eighth inning, a single and a pair of hit by pitches would allow Patrick Mazur to get a walk-off run-rule single to give Marshall the early win at 11-1.

Drew Harlow continued to shine, going seven innings with four strikeouts, seven hits, and only one walk on one run. Davis Gunn would finish off the game in the eighth with a K for himself.

If you thought Marshall used up all their offense in game two, game three would prove quite the opposite.

Kenyon Collins would continue his dominant stretch, going six innings, seven strikeouts, only three hits, and one run that was unearned.

Now it’s time for the offense, so buckle in because there’s a lot to go over.

The Bonnies would strike first in the first inning, and Marshall would launch their attack at the plate. A Halter double scored Evan Bottone and Kamerer, then a Cooper Hinson double chased home Halter. A Service double would score AJ Havrilla and Hinson to make it 5-1 after the first inning.

The momentum would go into the second with a Havrilla single scoring Bottone, followed by a base-loaded walk to Hinson score Kamerer. Service would stay hot as he launched a double that cleared the bases to make it 10-1.

In the bottom frame of the fifth, Kamerer singled home Jackson Golden and Jack Smith. Halter doubled, scoring Kamerer and Bottone. A Hinson sac fly would score Halter, and a two-out double from Cleary Simpson would score Havrilla, making the lead 16-1.

The Herd offense would finish the game in the bottom of the sixth with nine runs, one of them being a homer by Ty Householder for his first collegiate long ball.

Marshall looks to continue to build momentum as it takes on Louisville for a two-game set before coming back home to begin conference play against Georgia State.
