Thundering Herd Look to Find Rhythm Before Sun Belt Conference Play Begins

Huntington, W.Va.- Marshall women’s volleyball team is set to have a pair of matchups with the Morehead State Eagles this weekend. Marshall welcomes the Eagles to Huntington on Friday while Morehead State will play host to the Herd on Saturday.

Marshall and Morehead State head into this clash as familiar foes with the Eagles holding a 45-21 advantage all-time over the Herd. The last matchup between the two schools came in 2023 with Morehead State taking down Marshall 3-0. Heather Stout is in her third year as head coach of the Herd, while Kyrsten Becker-McBride is in her fourth year as head coach of the Morehead State Eagles.

The Thundering Herd (5-4) are coming off of a 3-0 sweep defeat on the road against Eastern Kentucky University on Tuesday. Marshall began its season on a high note starting off 5-1 but have cooled off since with the Herd riding a three-game losing skid. Maddie Smith leads the Herd in kills with 105 while Beatrice Ciccarelli rounds out the defense with a team leading 36 blocks.

Making the trip to Huntington are the Morehead State Eagles (4-4) following their own 3-0 sweep loss to Michigan State on Sept. 12. Morehead State comes into this matchup in pursuit of breaking a two-game losing streak. The Eagles are being by led in the offensive department by Hollan Everett, who has a team leading 103 kills. Amelia Nott controls the defense with a team high 27 blocks.

The Thundering Herd come into this matchup leading the Sun Belt Conference in both kills per set with 14.28 and assists per set with 13.41. Meanwhile, the Eagles approach this contest ranking fifth in the Ohio Valley Conference with 11.83 kills per set.

Both teams enter this matchup looking to establish momentum before kicking off crucial conference play.
