HUNTINGTON W.Va – Marshall Men’s Soccer picked up a 3-0 win over Old Dominion on Tuesday night. With the win, The Thundering Herd earned a share of the Sun Belt regular season title. Marshall played a strong game from start to finish and was able to take advantage of its scoring opportunities.

Marshall came out playing aggressively and looked like the better team for most of the night. The Herd did a good job moving the ball around the pitch and creating chances near the Old Dominion box. ODU had a hard time getting much going offensively, especially in the first half. Marshall’s defense also did a good job keeping the Monarchs from getting many chances to score.

Carl Romberg had a big night for Marshall, scoring two of the team’s three goals. His goals helped give the Herd control of the game and put Old Dominion in a tough spot. Romberg was one of the main reasons Marshall was able to come away with such a promising and dominant win.

His performance was especially important in a game that had major conference title implications. Old Dominion tried to get more involved in the second half but still struggled to create many good scoring chances. The Monarchs started getting a few more shots off late in the game, but they could not find the back of the net. ODU also picked up three yellow cards in the second half as the game went on.

Another big moment came in the 83rd minute when Luka Lukic scored his first career goal. It was a special moment for Lukic and gave Marshall its third goal of the night. Getting his first career goal in such an important game made the moment even better. The goal also put the game out of reach for Old Dominion.

The win meant a lot more than just another victory for Marshall. By beating Old Dominion, the Herd secured a share of the Sun Belt regular season title. Winning a conference title is something every team works toward, and Marshall was able to reach that goal with its performance Tuesday night and look to find more hardware by the end of the season.

Overall, Marshall had a great showing against Old Dominion. Romberg’s two goals and Lukic’s first career goal helped lead the Herd to a 3-0 victory. The team also played well defensively, keeping ODU from creating many opportunities until late in the game. Marshall will now look to carry this success into the postseason as they continue its season on Saturday November 7th as they host the Kentucky Wildcats.
