HUNTINGTON, W. Va. (WMUL-FM) — Coming off its first sweep since 2023 and its first home sweep since 2019, Marshall baseball (5-6) looks to defeat an old Mid-American Conference foe in the Ohio Bobcats (3-7) on Tuesday evening.

The Thundering Herd has won four of its last five games and is on a four-game winning streak where it has defeated opponents 34-19 overall.

In the previous series against Fairleigh Dickinson, which brought Marshall its first ever series sweep at Jack Cook Field, AJ Havrilla, Eddie Leon and Tyler Kamerer each tallied four hits in the series. Kamerer led the way for the Herd with six RBIs, and the three men on the bump collecting earned wins for the squad were Bryce Blevins, Charlie Krebs, and Tim Baird. Nicholas Weyrich was the trusted closer as he registered two saves across 4.1 scoreless innings and five strikeouts.

Ohio is coming off a home series win against Butler, where it was able to bring home 2 victories in the three games, all in high-scoring affairs. Over the three outings, Butler scored 30 runs, but managed to concede 26 as well.

Freshman infielder Matt Ineich has led the way for the Bobcats at the plate, holding a .464 batting average. However, sophomore outfielder Ben Slanker gets the Bobcats on the board more than anyone, jumping out to a quick start in 2025 with a team-high five home runs and 15 RBIs. Sophomore catcher Trae Cassidy has been bringing his lunch pail to the batter’s box as well, recording an impressive 16 hits so far.

Marshall leads the way in this old conference rivalry since 2006, managing to accumulate a 20-12 record against Ohio, with a 7-3 tally at home.

The game Tuesday between Marshall and Ohio will be broadcast on WMUL-FM 88.1 and online at marshall.edu/WMUL. FM88 Sports’ Ben Anderson and Nate Courtney will be on the call. Pregame coverage begins at 4:45 and first pitch is at 5 p.m.
