HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Marshall Women’s Soccer returns home for the first time since a stretch of four road games to welcome Fairmont State this Friday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Hoops Family Field (also known as Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex).

The Herd enters the matchup with a strong 4-1-0 record, already surpassing last season’s win total early into this campaign. After three consecutive victories away from home, Marshall is returning to familiar territory and looks to keep pace as Sun Belt Conference play draws near.

Marshall is posting an impressive average of three goals per game, ranking second in the Sun Belt Conference. Senior Bailey Fisher anchors the attack, sitting 10th in the conference with three goals and second in total shots with 62. Behind Fisher, the offensive depth is steady as Marcella Alves and Geovanna Souza both have added two goals and two assists as well.

Fairmont State enters this season as 0-0-0, meaning this is its first match of 2025. The Fighting Falcons are coming off a successful 12-7-1 campaign in 2024 where they reached the Mountain East Conference Semifinals. For this year, they have been picked to finish second in the MEC North division. Coach Kernell Borneo begins his fifth season with Fairmont State, and this marks his second 12-win season as the program’s leader. This Friday’s matchup will be the first regular season meeting ever between these two sides.

This non-conference fixture against Fairmont State serves as a critical warm-up before conference play begins. Marshall sits under 10 days away from its first Sun Belt match following this game, making Friday a key chance to fine-tune both the Herd’s attacking and defensive rhythms.
