HUNTINGTON, W. Va. (WMUL-FM) — The No. 10 Thundering Herd Men’s Soccer Team opens Sun Belt Conference play against the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers on Friday at Hoops Family Field.

Coming off a national championship appearance last season, the Herd has struggled out of the gate, only winning two of its first five matches. The Herd started the season as the second ranked team in the country and had three straight draws in matches against No. 12 Virginia Tech, St Johns, and #12 High Point.

The Herd earned its second win of the season on Sunday against the University of California Santa Barbara at Hoops Family Field, shutting out the Gauchos 4-0. Junior Joao Roberto led the Herd with two goals while goalkeeper Dan Rose had seven saves.

For the Chanticleers, it has not been an ideal start to the season as they are 1-3 in their first 4 matches. Coastal Carolina’s most recent loss came against North Florida on Friday in Conway, 4-1. The Chants trailed 6-2 in shots and 4-3 on corner kicks in the match, as well as being outshot 17-7.

The Herd looks to start its run to another Sun Belt Conference title this year. You can tune in to the matchup on-air at 88.1 WMUL-FM, as well as on Stream 1 at marshall.edu/wmul/. FM88 Sports’ Nate Courtney will be on play-by-play, with Anthony Doria providing color commentary. Pregame begins at 7 p.m. with kickoff at 7:15.
