HUNTINGTON, W. Va. (WMUL-FM) — Marshall Women’s Soccer (6-4-1, 2-2-1 SBC) finds itself 8th in the Sun Belt Conference after a loss against James Madison University. The Thundering Herd has a date on Sunday at home with the Sun Belt Conference East Division Leaders, the Old Dominion Monarchs (7-1-3, 3-0-2 SBC), who are currently second in the entire conference.
Marshall strung a couple of wins together against Georgia State and Arkansas State after starting conference play winless (0-1-1) through its first two matchups. The Herd fell short in Harrisonburg after James Madison got off to a hot start with two goals in the first twelve minutes of play, and JMU never looked back en route to a 4-1 victory.
The Monarchs have scored 12 goals in their last two matchups as they defeated Southern Miss handily 7-1, and Troy 5-3. Old Dominion has not lost a game in over a month, with its last defeat coming against Liberty University on Aug. 31.
The Herd’s key players coming into the matchup are Bailey Fisher with six goals on 38 shots, and Fernanda Dantas with eight assists and two goals.
Marshall has not defeated ODU since 2019 but leads the all-time series 5-3-2.
The top-8 teams in the Sun Belt Conference standings at the end of the season qualify for the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, so this matchup could prove to be crucial for the Herd as it sits right at that eighth position.
You can tune into the matchup on 88.1 WMUL-FM or on Stream 1 at www.marshall.edu/wmul/. FM88 Sports’ Connor Brown and Rhys Owens will be on the call with pregame coverage starting at 5:45 p.m. and kickoff set for 6 p.m.
