HUNTINGTON, W. Va. (WMUL-FM) — Marshall Women’s Soccer earned a hard-fought point on home turf Friday night, drawing 1–1 with Coastal Carolina in a tightly balanced Sun Belt Conference matchup at Hoops Family Field. The result officially puts the Herd in the postseason for the first time since 2022, while the Chanticleers’ seventh consecutive draw officially ended their hopes of qualifying for conference tournament play.

The opening half was largely a midfield battle, with neither side able to create many clear scoring opportunities. Each team registered only two shots through the first 45 minutes, with both defenses holding strong and goalkeepers going mostly untested.

Marshall broke through early in the second half. In the 51st minute, Larissa Ozorio pounced on a defensive miscue and delivered a composed finish to net her second goal of the season, putting the Herd ahead 1–0 and shifting momentum in their favor. The goal energized Marshall’s attack, as it began to dictate possession and apply pressure in the Coastal defensive third.

However, the Chanticleers showed resilience. In the 75th minute, Tamlyn Parkes, assisted by Olivia Goretski, found space and calmly slotted a shot into the bottom-left corner to level the match. The equalizer fueled Coastal’s late push, as the Chants generated multiple corner kicks and looked for a potential winner down the stretch.

Despite Coastal’s late pressure, Marshall’s back line remained composed, and goalkeeper support helped preserve the draw in the final minutes.

While Marshall may feel as it had chances to secure all three points after taking the lead, the draw still adds to their conference tally as the postseason nears. For Coastal Carolina, the ties continue with a string of difficult near-misses, solid defensive performances, but not enough to climb back into the tournament picture.
