HUNTINGTON, W. Va. (WMUL-FM) — The Marshall Thundering Herd Men’s Basketball Team hosted the Old Dominion Monarchs on Tuesday night in a pivotal conference matchup. Marshall entered the contest with an 18–11 overall record and a 10–6 mark in league play, while Old Dominion came in at 10–19 overall and 6–10 in conference action.
Marshall controlled the game from start to finish, creating separation late in the first half behind a decisive scoring run. Fricks ignited the surge by scoring eight points in just one minute and thirty seconds, helping the Herd build a 13-point halftime advantage. That cushion held firm throughout the remainder of the night.
Old Dominion briefly trimmed the deficit to six early in the second half, but Marshall responded immediately with back-to-back baskets from Noah Otshudi and Erich Harding, quickly re-establishing momentum.
The Herd’s defensive pressure proved to be a major factor, limiting the Monarchs to just 22 percent shooting from three-point range and consistently forcing them into difficult possessions.
Marshall also thrived in transition, holding a 14–4 advantage in fast-break points and converting turnovers into a 12–6 scoring edge.
The Herd was led offensively by a balanced quartet of Fricks, Otshudi, Landen Joesph, and Jalen Speer. Seniors Fricks and Otshudi paced the scoring effort with 28 and 18 points. respectively, while freshman Landen Joesph and graduate student Jalen Speer each added 18 points to help propel Marshall to the conference victory.
With the win, Marshall now sits second in the conference at 11–6 with just one game remaining in the regular season.
While the Herd will need some help to capture the conference title, all focus now turns to Friday night’s regular-season finale against the Georgia Southern Eagles.
Tip-off is set for 9 p.m. at the Cam Henderson Center, in what shapes up to be the most important game of the season for Marshall.
