HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WMUL-FM) — Funktafest X is mixing funk and video game theming for the festival’s tenth year.
The annual festival brings music, art and community to the Ritter Park Amphitheatre, and the entire weekend is getting a Megaman X-style rebrand, including Funkle Sam and Eye Gal.
This year’s festival will span two days for the second year in a row, going from Friday, October 2 to Saturday, October 3.
The lineup features some of Appalachia’s finest musical artists, including some of Huntington’s own.
Music starts at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and 3 p.m. on Saturday. The party wraps up at 10 p.m. each night.
An after party at the Loud will follow Saturday’s festivities featuring Massing, Randy, and Eye.V. The party kicks off at 10 p.m. and will run until 2 a.m.
Friday’s lineup features Mr. Awful, Mamba Beatz, Future Anonymous, The M.F.B, Dinosaur Burps and the Kind Thieves.
Saturday includes KiTana, Baedizzle, Arcana, The Heavy Hitters, Friendly Fire, Here Keke, Freekbass, the Settlement and headliner Magnolia Boulevard.
The annual kick-off party on Marshall’s Memorial Student Center Plaza will take place some time in early to mid-September, according to festival organizer Parry Casto.
In addition to all the music and art, the Funky Bus Stop Initiative hopes to make attending the festival easier and more accessible to students, Casto said. There will be shuttle transportation running between the festival grounds and the John Marshall statue during the festival in approximately 30-minute rotations.
WMUL-FM has held Classroom Concerts featuring The Heavy Hitters and Mamba Beatz, which are available on Youtube or by clicking the underlined links.
Parry Casto was featured on Huntington Unscripted to talk about last year’s festival. That interview is also available on Youtube.
