All of the Marshall University campuses have technology embedded into all aspects of the planning and infrastructure. Technological innovation provides all of our patrons with collaborative, interactive and productivity tools enabling them to take a proactive role in their education, research and jobs.
University has developed IT strategy to aggressively address financial efficiencies in teaching and learning, advanced teaching and research tools, administrative systems, student services, e-learning, intra-campus and intercampus network infrastructure, while improving quality and access. Our vision is to serve all campuses in a unified cost effective manner. The transformation is a result of a comprehensive approach built on careful analysis of internal and external factors, development of an appropriate administrative/funding model, building top-to-bottom buy in, expansion of instructional technology, a solid technology infrastructure, and effective promotion.

Libraries

Marshall University Libraries is lead by Dean Barbara Winters. The Marshall University Libraries support the teaching, research and public service commitments of the University.  To fulfill this responsibility, the Libraries acquire, organize, maintain and preserve materials in all appropriate formats.  They also provide access and delivery of information, resources and services. The Marshall University Library System consists of the John Deaver Drinko Library,the James E. Morrow Library, the Health Science Library at the Cabell-Huntington Hospital, the Music Library in Smith Music Hall, the Hoback Chemistry Library in the Science Building, and the Marshall University Graduate College Library in South Charleston. 


Computing Services

Computing Services is lead by Dr. Arnold Miller, who also serves as the Assistant Vice President for IT. Computing Services supports all the central computing needs of all the MU campuses. These areas include all telecommunications and network functions, Customer Services including the central HelpDesk, UCF Labs, and Regional Centers, Servers and Systems, and Databases including the entire SCT SunGard Banner ERP, BlackBoard Vista and III Library System. The university operates under standard computer configurations and standard computer images. The campus is 80% wireless and gigabit Ethernet is delivered to the desktop.


Distributed Education

Distributed Education is lead by David Johnson. The Center for Instructional Technology is responsible for all the campus web properties and the management and academic support of MUOnline, our Online Course Management system (BlackBoard Vista). We are in the process of moving to content management via SharePoint for both the internal and external web properties. Instructional Television Services supports video streaming, our educational Channel25, digital signage and Technology Enhanced and Two-Way Video classrooms. We also provide Technology Outreach for economic development and to our K12 community (OCCHS).
