October 10 – November 4, 2022

In the Birke Art Gallery, inside Smith Hall

Can machines be taught to see, hear, speak? What is lost? What might be found? These questions coil in the roots of this exhibition by artists Christiana Caro and Kimberly Lyle. Caro was employed by Google to teach an intelligent camera about seeing. Lyle is reimagining old technology designed to gather auditory sensory data question the logic within these systems. Both reflect on the interface of the body with technology to imagine forms that might allow us to uncover other ways of knowing.

Watch an interview with the artists.
