APPLY TO THE BILL NOE FLIGHT SCHOOL
The Marshall University Bill Noe Flight School’s Professional Pilot, B.S., degree program leads to a series of FAA certifications and prepares graduates to become commercial pilots of single and multi-engine aircraft.
Let’s start your career as a professional pilot!

STEP 1
Your first step is to apply for admission to Marshall University.
Clicking above will take you to the university’s admissions disclosures and then to the application form. Students interested in earning a Professional Pilot, B.S. degree from South Charleston, Lewisburg or Martinsburg must complete the Marshall University application. Once you submit your application, our staff will contact you with next steps.
Students interested in our professional pilot program at West Liberty University should follow the application instructions on the WLU site.
Students interested in our Aviation Maintenance Technology, A.A.S. degree program with Mountwest Community and Technical College should apply on the Mountwest site.
If you are interested in flight training without earning a bachelor’s degree, apply directly to the Bill Noe Flight School.

Step 2
Once you have received admission to Marshall University, a member of our team will contact you about the next step in the application process. Specifically, you will need to:
Complete a medical exam by an FAA-approved physician.
The FAA requires commercial pilots hold a Class 1 medical certificate. Therefore we require the Class 1 certificate as a condition for admission.
- If you wear glasses or contacts, have your prescription checked before your appointment with the FAA physician.
- Check with your personal physician to ensure any prescribed medications are current.
- Complete your medical certificate application.
- Make an appointment with a local Aviation Medical Examiner.
- Submit your medical certificate to the BNFS.
Provide documentation of your U.S. citizenship.
- You can use a notarized copy of your birth certificate or a current U.S. passport.
- U.S. citizens born outside the U.S. should contact the Bill Noe Flight School regarding alternate documentation required by the FAA.
- If you do not have a U.S. passport, we highly recommend you begin the application process after you are admitted.
Send the above materials to bnfs@marshall.edu.
