Welcome to Marshall University! As a first-generation college student, you’re embarking on an exciting journey. We understand that being the first in your family to attend college can come with unique challenges and opportunities. At Marshall, we’re committed to supporting you every step of the way.
Being a first-generation college student means that neither of your parents or guardians has completed a bachelor’s degree.
We understand that being first can be tough, but we’re here to help you succeed. We have a large First-Gen community that includes students, faculty, staff and alumni. We are here to encourage, support and celebrate you along your journey.
Students Support Services, a federally funded TRIO, grant program, serves undergraduate, first-gen students.
Marshall University joins colleges and universities across the country to #CelebrateFirstGen students on November 8th each year with a week-long schedule of activities and events.
A unique combination of scholarships, grants, work opportunities and family contributions giving incoming, undergraduate, first-year Marshall students the opportunity to partner with the university to earn your degree, debt-free.
The Center for Student Success provides opportunities and assistance for students in their academic life including the FAM peer mentor program. You FAM will help you get adjusted to campus, answer any questions, and point you to campus resources.
If you’ve graduated from high school and haven’t enrolled in any college or university yet, you can apply to be a first-year freshman student at Marshall.
