The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), has granted accreditation through October 2025 to the Department of Counselor Education at Marshall University for the following programs Clinical Mental Health Counseling (M.A. degree) and School Counseling (M.A. degree) specialty areas offered at the Huntington and South Charleston, West Virginia campuses, as well as via online delivery.

Dr. Brian Kinghorn, an associate professor of curriculum, instruction and foundations at Marshall University, and his National Youth Science Camp (NYSCamp) staff organized and directed a second virtual camp this summer, in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Five students who will begin their undergraduate studies at Marshall University this fall were recognized as 2021 Underwood-Smith Teaching Scholars. They were part of a group of 25 who will be attending higher education institutions throughout West Virginia.

The June Harless Center for Rural Educational Research and Development (JHC), a program of Marshall University’s College of Education and Professional Development, has named Tarabeth Heineman to the position of executive director and Maggie Luma as chief of staff.

Marshall University’s Autism Training Center, in partnership with the Autism Society of West Virginia, will host a two-day, online event Thursday, Sept. 9, and Friday, Sept. 10.

Marshall University alumna Jennifer Bailey recently established the Harry and Barbara Raczok Scholarship to honor her late parents.

The Central West Virginia Writing Project, in cooperation with the West Virginia Department of Education and Marshall University’s literacy education program, will present its spring writing conference virtually later this month. The event will have the theme “Pencil, Paper, Disk, Drive: Crossing the Composing Rainbow.”

Marshall University’s undergraduate elementary teacher preparation program has been named among the top in the country for maintaining selective academic admissions requirements by the National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ), a nonpartisan, not-for-profit research and policy organization.

Dr. Tim Melvin, assistant professor and director of assessment for Marshall University’s College of Education and Professional Development, and Sara Payne Scarbro, associate vice president for external engagement at the Marshall University Research Corporation and operations council chair for the Alliance for the Economic Development of Southern West Virginia (Alliance), today announced that they are seeking input from small business owners and operators across the Mountain State. All West Virginia small business managers and operators are encouraged to participate in a statewide survey before Jan. 29, 2021.

The West Virginia Imagination Library program (supported by the West Virginia Department of Education and Marshall University’s June Harless Center) and the Dollywood Foundation will present a free, one-night-only livestreaming world premiere event for The Library That Dolly Built, a behind-the-scenes look at Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. EST.
