Marshall University’s Educational Specialist (EdS) in School Psychology certificate program prepares students to meet the Department of Education requirements for certification in West Virginia and other states.
The EdS in school psychology is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) in association with the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP).
Designed for those who have completed a master’s in psychology or a related field, the program includes 39 credit hours of coursework and field experiences, culminating in a 1,200-hour paid internship within a school setting.
Graduates are equipped with the skills and credentials needed to support student well-being and academic success in diverse educational environments.

Students can enroll in a Master of Arts (MA) in Psychology with a School Psychology emphasis (36 credit hours) and, upon successful completion of the first semester, may apply to the EdS program, leading to a master’s degree and a graduate certificate over approximately three years of full-time study.
Students will complete a paid internship consisting of a commitment to a school system for a full academic year. This paid internship must occur within a school setting and meet stringent criteria specified by the program and the National Association of School Psychologists.
The Education Specialist (EdS) program in School Psychology Ed. S. Plan of Study is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) in association with the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP).
School psychologists can work in elementary and secondary schools, educational support services, colleges, universities and more. According to the Bureau of Labor & Statistics, the average annual salary for school psychologists in 2023 was $84,940.
