Undergraduate Teacher Education

The Department of Undergraduate Teacher Education (UTE) is composed of highly qualified and dedicated faculty who bring a wealth of teaching experience and scholarly expertise to the preparation of future educators. The department’s mission is to prepare reflective, effective, and committed teachers who possess the knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to meet the diverse needs of students in today’s schools.

The department offers programs leading to the Bachelor of Arts in Education with majors in Elementary Education and Secondary Education. All programs are designed in accordance with state and national standards and include extensive clinical and field-based experiences that provide progressive professional growth and practical application of knowledge.

Students enrolled in undergraduate teacher education programs complete more than 900 hours of field-based and clinical experiences in public and private school settings. These experiences are intentionally sequenced to provide increasing levels of responsibility and professional engagement. The clinical sequence culminates in a year-long residency (Residency I and Residency II), during which candidates work under the supervision of a cooperating teacher to refine and demonstrate their teaching competencies.
