About

The Learning Resources Center (LRC) is a student, faculty, and staff maker space to create visual presentations, posters, and various print materials needed for the classroom. Over the years we have expanded to include services related to business office applications as well, and anyone may use our facilities and services. The LRC operates as a full-service print and copy center, from handouts, brochures, and booklets, to large poster prints. We can also laminate items up to 24” in width.

Poster Printing

We have both a 24” wide printer as well as a 36” wide printer available for large printing jobs. Wide format jobs may be printed on either white paper or glossy photo quality paper for vivid images and professional looking posters. While typical poster sizes are either 24”x36” or 36”x48”, we can accommodate almost any size as long as one side of the print is 36” or less. See the Submitting Copying/Printing Work on acceptable file formats and submitting work to print.

Copying

The LRC can perform almost any task that a print shop does, from simple copying to brochures, programs, and booklets. Contact us for pricing information for your projects.

A large variety of AccuCut and Ellison shapes and letter styles are available, as well as a Cricut machine. You may choose to bring your own materials or purchase them through the center, while utensils, such as scissors, markers, and glue, are available for free.

Submitting Copying/Printing Work

For copying or printing work, you may either walk in or email it to us. We can print almost any type of file (Word, PowerPoint, image files, etc.) but the preferred file format is PDF, especially for wide format printing. Email your work to the LRC Director, George Watson, at watson@marshall.edu. Please include contact and department (if applicable) information in the email. While we typically can complete jobs within three business days, larger projects may take longer to complete. We recommend giving us at least a week to complete your project, in case of problems or technology issues.

Poster Design Guide

Poster printing, also known as wide format printing, takes special attention to detail to get the best results. While we try to review posters for obvious errors, such as imagery that is placed off the printable area, overlapping text/images, etc., you are responsible for what is on your poster. We are happy to provide guidance or answer questions before you submit your poster for printing.

Tips:

  • Set your dimensions before creating your poster, as items may move if your file must be resized for printing.
  • PDF is the best format for poster printing, with PowerPoint being a good second choice if the slide size is preset to the right dimensions.
  • Avoid, if possible, small graphics, like cartoon people, as they tend to blur when enlarged.
  • PROOFREAD! There is nothing more embarrassing than having a misspelled word in large print on your research poster. Trust us, we know.
Invoicing and Payment

Invoices will be generated and sent to the designated contact at the completion of work. For Marshall departments interdepartmental transfer is the typical method of payment, and for Marshall students Herd points or checks are accepted. For those outside the Marshall family, payment by check is the only method of payment we can accept, as we are unable to accept credit or debit cards at this time.
