Symbols University Seal The seal of Marshall University features the date of the institution’s founding and a bust of namesake John Marshall, the fourth chief justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. John Marshall Fife and Drum Corps Members of the John Marshall Fife and Drum Corps are students and instructors in the Department of Music. They wear Revolutionary War-era uniforms and perform on McDonagh fifes and rope drums. The corps plays music from the era of John Marshall. President’s Medallion and Grand Mace Chief Justice John Marshall’s image is used prominently on both the President’s Medallion and the Grand Mace of the university. “We Are Marshall” Wordmark “We Are…Marshall” captures the enthusiasm, strength and resiliency of the Marshall family.
