Program Overview

The Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Medical Laboratory Technology degree program at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, prepares students to perform routine diagnostic work conducted in clinical labs.

Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLTs) are entry-level lab techs who use advanced technology to analyze blood and other body fluids useful in detecting and treating diseases. MLTs provide physicians and other medical professionals with 70% of the objective information used in making formal diagnoses. Medical laboratory technicians work in hospital laboratories, doctor’s offices and research settings.

Marshall University’s MLT program is fully accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS).

Our two-year program allows students to begin working in the field within 15 months. Our 2+2 career ladder program offers the Associate of Applied Science in Medical Laboratory Technology as the first degree, which transitions seamlessly to our Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science degree program.

My favorite thing about our program would definitely be the lab procedures we are able to complete. To be able to work with actual patient blood and samples, and to gain real life experience while in the classroom is an exciting experience.”
