Biography

Dr. Lisa Burton, NCC, LPC & ALPS is a Full Professor, Program Director, and School Counselor Coordinator in the Counseling Department. With a deep commitment to student growth, Dr. Burton fosters supportive educational and professional relationships that help aspiring counselors develop into ethical, skilled, and compassionate professionals. She teaches a range of counseling courses each semester, emphasizing experiential and skill-based learning for students in both the school counseling and clinical mental health tracks.

Dr. Burton’s professional and scholarly work focuses on the integration of creativity in counseling, clinical supervision, school counseling programs, ethics, and the innovative use of vision boards in therapeutic and educational settings. She is a frequent presenter at national, regional, and state conferences and has authored several articles and published activities on the benefits of vision boards in goal setting, life transitions, and grief work. In addition to teaching, she is actively involved in advising and mentoring students throughout their journey toward becoming professional counselors and even afterwards in supervising counselors for licensure.

Originally from rural West Virginia, Dr. Burton’s love of animals began on her family farm and continues today. Outside of her academic work, she enjoys photography, swimming, going to beach, and spending time with her family.
