West Virginia Autism Spectrum Disorder Registry

The West Virginia Autism Spectrum Disorder Registry (WVASDR) began January 1, 2004. Autism Spectrum Disorder is a reportable condition of childhood (Legislative Rule 64, series 7, category 11A, 3.5.b.2.). The WVASDR is housed and managed by the West Virginia Autism Training Center, at Marshall University, as per protocol in the legislative rule. The WVASDR will allow us to track the number of West Virginians diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder each year.

The state autism registry was created when WV was one of the first states in the CDC prevalence study. The registry does not collect personal identifying information; primarily, it reports things such as the person’s initials, age, a county of residence, and asks some questions like the number of siblings a person has, and what level of autism is diagnosed. But no information is kept that would identify the person diagnosed with autism or their family. There is no psychological or medical information kept in the state registry.

If you received services from us and “registered” for services, we have what forms you sent us. However, that information is not in the state registry. Those files, like any medical record, are confidential, protected, and not shared in any way. In our center, “registered for services,” is different than being in the “state registry.” We do not report or share information we do have with anyone without informed consent. Ever.

There is currently a lot of news about registries and tracking people. We are not doing that, will not participate in that, and all records are secure and confidential.

In order to record the numbers we ask that medical professionals download and use the following form.
