Dr. Ron Childress Profile

Biography

Dr. Ronald Childress serves as Professor in the College of Education and Professional Development at Marshall University and holds doctoral faculty appointments in Leadership Studies and Curriculum & Instruction.  Childress received his EdD from the University of Tennessee and served a year as an American Council on Education Fellow in Academic Administration with the West Virginia Board of Regents. He has K-12 teaching and system-level administrative experience in the Tennessee public schools and more than five decades of higher education administrative and teaching experience at the West Virginia Graduate College and Marshall University.  He has held institutional positions as Program Director, Professional Education Unit Coordinator, Dean, and Vice President, and served for more than 20 years as state-level Coordinator for NCATE/CAEP for the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission. He teaches doctoral level courses in research, program evaluation, policy studies, and instructional theory.  Dr. Childress supports students through directing doctoral research, mentoring, and advising.  He is an active researcher with a broad range of education and noneducation interests.  Outside of work, Childress is an active bicyclist, softball player, and grandfather of five ranging in age from 9 to 19.
