Dr. Char Sample Profile

Biography

Dr. Char Sample is a cybersecurity researcher at ICF where she currently supports NSF. Dr. Sample has over 30 years of industry experience beginning in software development, through product test and integration, and finally as a researcher (both applied and academic). Dr. Sample’s research areas are all cybersecurity related with an interest toward decision-making in cybersecurity. Past projects have focused on the influence of cultural values on cybersecurity, cyber deception including but not limited to “fake news”, and AI/ML vulnerabilities. Other research areas include data resilience, cyber-physical systems, industrial control systems and trustworthy artificial intelligence.

Dr. Sample has also worked in university environments in course development, and delivery in cybersecurity (resilience and architecture). She also works with doctoral students at Capitol Technology University.

Dr. Sample has a BS in Computer Science from the University of Pittsburgh, an MS in Systems Management from Capitol Technology University, and a Doctor of Science in Information Assurance also from Capitol Technology University. Her dissertation topic was “Culture and Computer Network Attack Behaviors”. Dr. Sample served her post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Warwick. She is an invited speaker in academic, public, and private sector events.

Dr. Sample currently lives in Maryland with her husband. She enjoys traveling, outdoor activities, and catching up with friends.
