The goal of FOCUS is to implement institutional change by placing innovative strategies for success at the forefront of STEM education and creating a network of educators who are preparing the next generation of students and professionals. To engage faculty in this effort, the FOCUS Community of Practice meets throughout the academic year to explore additional strategies, provide real-time feedback on implementation, and incorporate diverse perspectives into the ongoing development of evidence-based teaching practices.
The Community of (Learning and) Practice is an important component of fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth. Participants have opportunities to learn from experts through Lunch and Learn seminars and other activities that focus on topics such as the psychology of teamwork and group research, effective written and oral communication, student belonging, and the development of academic identity.
Faculty who participate in the Community of Practice receive a $250 stipend per semester.
